Hand washing romaine lettuce, with baking soda

The art of tossing salad with lettuce

Cleaning and washing is essential and a must

As anyone may knows, tossing salad and lettuce from scratch may take time, no less than cooking regular dishes.

The reason lies in the art and the methods in cleaning and washing the lettuce and spring mixes for the salad.

Washing lettuce with baking soda help remove chemical residue

If you worry about chemical residue on the lettuce, you may add a bid of baking soda, helping to get rid of the chemical (1 teaspoon to 2 cups of cold water: according to the reference link below from Arm & Hammer), and water to salad glass bowl (or container surfaces doesn’t react with baking soda), big enough to fit whole lettuce leaves without breaking them.

Hand wash lettuce leave by leave

Worry about dirt and possibly some unwelcome crawlers on the lettuces?

You hand wash leave by leave!

Know what you think.

It doesn’t have to be that bad, actually with little practice, if it becomes quick and easy.

Ready to get started, here we go

After adding baking soda to the water in the salad glass bowl, grab a lettuce leaf, wash it using both hands.

With both thumbs on top and fingers (four each hand) on the bottom of the leaf, gently move both thumbs forward and swiping from center to sides of the leaf while moving rest of the fingers on the bottom of the leaf simultaneously in the same direction and motions as it would cover both top and bottom area of the leaf at the same time, each round.

You can just repeat the same motion going down the leaf until to the end of the leaf to finish.

Simple with practice

At first this may seem tedious but as you would find out, with practice, it would be quick as you are mastering the art of washing the lettuce to ensure getting rid of ALMOST (as close to being completely) all the dirt and unwanted stuff on the leaves.

We think it is worth it!

Have fun mastering the art.
