Stir fried: flip and toss, quick and stir

Action in cooking

Stir fried is exciting to watch, seeing the cooking channel where chefs fling the wok and pans, flipping the food up in the air and land. All that fancy cooking really geared up your appetite for the dish.

Practice the flipping

Coordination counts when stir fried and flipping the food. All you need is a little practice if you are new to stir frying.

Get a wok or a pan, depending on your hand preference, grab the wok/pot with one hand and use your other hand for the spatula.

Then use a small dry cloth, place it in the wok/pan and practice flipping without actual turning on the heat.

We just need to go through the motion of flicking both wrists : upward motion on lifting the pan and the quick pushes to the spatula.

Practice until you can flip the cloth. and repeat to build the habit.

Then you are ready to stir frying, happy flipping! And when your wrists got tired, give it a rest, Just stir the food, not flipping would do just fine!
