Baking: chemistry in the kitchen

Baking is fun, and for those who like to bake, it is more science than you think!

Think of those chemistry classes you took during high school: mixing things up, heating them and generally you get some sort of reaction that your teacher is looking for. Well, in turns of recipe, that is exactly what you would do: following the recipe, mixing all the ingredients together, processing them in certain order and viola, you get something wonderful or awful out of the oven! Some types of things, except baking come with  treats at the finish.

Short list of basic ingredients

Unlike chemistry, you will have to remember 118 periodic elements. With baking you just have to remember a few: egg, sugar, fat, baking soda/powder, yeast (leavening agent) and of course, our flour.

Simple, we are not trying to make something cool to change the world, all we want is really basic and yet effective: to make things come out delicious! No wonder baking is an industry no short of the profit as from DuPont.
