Fresh ingredient, cooking starts in the grocery store.

When it comes to cooking, it all comes down to what you have to start out!

Start out fresh

Fresh ingredients: better to work with, easier to prepare, better taste and most of all, best for your health!

Look for freshness

When grocery shopping, while there are great efforts to keep things fresh, the freshness of those grocery items: produce, seafood and other meat are hard to come by.
But with a keen eyes and knowledge of the ingredient, you can pick the best of the best out of the batch.

The following are some of the keys to look for:

Produce/Lettuce (bagged) – feel the bulkiness, fuller the better, and also look for rotten leaves which is sign it start to go bad in a few days
Fish/meat – Make sure the expiration date is not soon to expire, look for sign of package date and just the general looks: color, luster and shine among other factor (come with experience).

Fruits – Look for the ripeness: make sure to pick according to your family’s consumption habits and timing in which your family starts to eat the fruit.
Milk/Dairy – Make sure expiration date is good and its refrigerating facility to make sure the grocery story has kept them in a properly cold temperature.
Cooking oil – Look for the expiration date and the type of the bottle container, preferably, a glass container for the maximum storage and food safety. For Coconut oil, avoid those with dark or brown spots, fresh coconut oil should be really white uniformity throughout!
