3 steps to grain by grain rice for sushi

Sushi rice, grain by grain

When you eat sushi from a restaurant, do you notice the rice separated grain by grain.

We have the perfect 3 steps to cook your rice to retain its shape while sticking together grain by grain. No more mushy rice!

1.Rice to water ratio

Often, we missed the measurement on water to rice ratio. Too much water will turn the rice mushy. And too little can make the rice undercooked. On the rice pod, make sure to provide the same volume of water as the level of the rice on the pod. To measure, upon draining water out of the rice pod, spread the rice evenly across the pod to form a level surface. Then you may use your finger to measure the depth of the rice by touching the bottom of the pod and see where it had a mark on the finger. And repeat the same for measuring to fill for the proper water level using the finger by touching top of the rice to the same level mark on the finger as the previous rice measurement; dumping or adding water as necessary.

2.Right amount of heat

Cooking a perfect rice, takes a combination of things to go right before it would turn out perfect. The second key to the lock is to make sure you boil your rice in the right heat. Often would be set to medium high at first till when it starts to boil. Then you turn it down to medium low and let it boil most of the water out of the rice then you would just turn it way low to finish. This takes timing and adjustment of the heat; Cooking with different serving requires different adjustment.

3. Timing is to be just right

Timing when to turn down the heat from the initial setting is very crucial to have a perfectly cooked rice. Pay attention to turning down to medium low when you see the rice boil on the initial setting and again turn it to very low when the water is mostly boiled up from the second heat setting. Practice makes perfect, this is the timing you must master in order for the rice to come out perfect!
